The Work We Take On
We work on the garage doors that actually exist in this city, and in Boston that means old ones. Most of the housing stock here went up between 1938 and 1985, with a lot of it dating to the 1960s and 70s, so we spend our days on torsion springs, tracks, and openers that were installed on houses built before anybody thought about insulated steel panels or battery backup. That includes the narrow single-car garages tucked under triple-deckers in Dorchester and Roxbury, the tight side-mounted setups you find in South Boston and Charlestown, and the occasional detached garage out toward Milton or Quincy where there's room for one.
We're based in Charlestown and we cover the neighborhoods close in - South Boston, East Boston, the North End side of downtown, Back Bay, the South End, Fenway, Dorchester - and we run out to the nearby cities too: Everett, Chelsea, Somerville, Cambridge, Revere, Brookline, Medford, and Malden. Winters here are genuinely cold, and cold does specific things to old garage door hardware: springs lose tension faster, rollers seize, and metal contracts enough that a door that worked fine in September binds in January. That's the bulk of our winter call volume, and it's not a mystery once you've seen the pattern a few hundred times.
We do spring replacement, cable repair, track alignment, roller and hinge work, opener repair and installation, and full door replacement when a door is past the point of patching.
What We Do Not Take On
We don't do new construction garage builds - we work on existing openings, not framing a garage from the ground up. If you're adding a garage to a property, that's a different trade and a different permit process than what we handle.
We also won't tell you a repair is the right call when it isn't. A lot of the doors we see in this city are original to houses built in the 1960s or earlier, and at some point the steel is too far gone, the track is too warped, or the parts simply aren't made anymore.
When that's the case we'll say so instead of billing you for a patch job that fails again in a year. That's not a policy we advertise - it's just what happens when you've worked on enough 60-year-old doors to know which ones are worth saving.
One more limit worth naming plainly: we're a garage door company, not a general contractor. We don't do electrical panel work beyond what's needed to wire an opener, we don't do drywall repair around a damaged frame, and we don't do masonry. If your job needs that kind of work alongside the door, you'll need someone else for that part.
