The Work We Take On
We work on the parts that actually fail on a garage door: torsion and extension springs, openers, cables, rollers, hinges, tracks, and panel sections. Most of the housing stock across this service area went up between 1938 and 1985, with a lot of it clustered in the 1960s and 70s across the 66 neighborhoods and towns we cover - Charlestown itself, South Boston, East Boston, Dorchester, and out through Somerville, Cambridge, Medford, Quincy, and the rest of the towns within roughly a 14-mile radius. Doors from that era were built for a different climate expectation than we get now, and we see a lot of hardware that's outlived its spring but not its opener.
We also handle new door and opener installs when a repair doesn't make sense anymore - a door with a bowed track and a rusted-through bottom panel, for instance, usually costs more to patch than to replace. Given the cold-severe climate band this region sits in, we pay attention to weatherstripping, bottom seals, and cold-weather lubrication on any job, not just the ones called in as emergencies. What We Do Not Take On
We don't do general contracting, framing, or structural garage rebuilds - if your opening needs to be resized or the header beam is compromised, that's carpentry work, not garage door work, and we'll say so rather than take the job. We also don't install or service gate operators, commercial rolling steel doors, or fire doors; our trucks and parts stock are set up for residential sectional and single-panel doors.
We don't guess at pricing over the phone for anything beyond a basic spring swap, because a lot of the older housing stock in this area has non-standard track widths or low-headroom setups that change the job once we're actually looking at the door. And we don't stock every legacy part for doors built before the 1960s wave of construction - some of those brackets and hinges are long out of production, and if yours is one of them, we'll tell you that up front instead of stringing out an order.
